Gilles Grethen Quartet
Luxembourg guitarist Gilles Grethen’s quartet convinces with a rich sound diversity and compositions oscillating between traditional and modern jazz. Warm harmonies and lyrical melodies, combined with a captivating rhythm and underlined by Grethen’s warm yet vibrant guitar sound, are the ingredients of their music. Both motives developed in unison and bold improvisations reveal that each of the four musicians gives important impetus and thus dissolve the stereotypical roles of soloist and rhythm section.
For his debut album, set for a May 2021 release on Double Moon Records, Grethen explores the classical tradition of the suite and its translation into the modern jazz idiom.
Gilles Grethen currently studies jazz guitar at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken with Martin Schulte. Besides his quartet, he plays with the renowned Luxembourg Little Big Band as well as numerous other projects.
